TUCSON — Feb. 26, 2015

Every year, Aviva and other community resource agencies host the March for Children to promote child abuse prevention month and to recognize those on the front lines fighting to prevent abuse.

This year’s march, the 11 th Annual, is Saturday, April 17th and nominations are being sought for the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Awards. The awards honor those who have made a difference in the continued fight against child abuse.

Please help by getting the word out! The deadline to submit awards is 5 p.m. March 27.

Nominees are sought for the following categories:

¨ Resilient Family of the Year: Awarded to a family who has overcome a crisis, successfully navigated the Dependency system, and has put into practice the tools and skills they've acquired by demonstrating strong protective factors. In other words, they've turned a crisis into an opportunity, challenges into strengths, and obstacles into successes.

¨ Keith Smith Foster Parent of the Year: Awarded to an outstanding foster parent(s) who has made an impact in the lives of children and youth in foster care.

¨ Agency/Program/Business: Awarded to any group, program, agency, or business who has made a significant impact in promoting the prevention of child abuse.

¨ Individual: Awarded to any individual who has been involved in making a difference in the prevention of child abuse.

This year’s event is being held at Reid Park in conjunction with Casa de los Niños’ Family Fiesta and will feature plenty of family activities, entertainment and refreshments.

This year’s march, the 10th Annual, is Sunday, April 13th and nominations are being sought for the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Awards. The awards honor those who have made a difference in the continued fight against child abuse.

Get ready for the 8th Annual March for Children!

Mark your calendars!  The 8th annual March for Children is set for Friday, March 30th, 2012.  It will start at 9:30 at the UA Medical Center- South Campus (formerly known as University Physician's Hospital).  It concludes at the Pima County Juvenile Court where we will recognize those people who have done an outstanding job in the area of child abuse prevention. 

 

Please make sure that to nominate someone who has made a postive impact in the fight against child abuse.  Simply go to "Submit Nominations" on the website.  Amongst the awards, one recognizes a  Resilient Family- a family who has successfully navigated the child welfare system.

In Memory of Jane Hedgpeth

We are very saddened to report that a member of the March for Children team, and a dear friend to us, Jane Hedgpeth, passed away recently.  We will remember her at this year's march and her dedication to the prevention of abuse to the children of Tucson.

Thank you for stopping by!  We are very excited to be entering our seventh year of promoting the prevention of child abuse.  Each year, we march to the Pima County Juvenile Court Center in an effort to raise awareness of child abuse prevention. 

 

This year's march will take place on April 1st, 2011.  It begins at 9:30 at University Physician's hospital.
